ALTERNATIVE RETIREMENT PLAN (ARP)
The Alternative Retirement Plan (ARP), a 401(a) account, is a defined contribution plan in which the employee and employer contribute a defined pre-tax percentage of pay. The employee makes the investment decisions, and those choices determine the amount of investment risk that the employee bears. The account balance consists of contributions made by the employee and the employer, along with the account’s investment gains or losses. The ARP is intended to give employees more portability and control of retirement investments.

°µÍø½ûÇø graduate Erik Gomez, who earned his bachelor’s degree in political science in May, spoke at Spring Commencement about his journey as a first-generation Latino-American student. Gomez, who was active in student government, completed an internship with the U.S. Senate before graduation and is currently working there as a staff assistant. He also was a member of the McNair Scholars Program, which prepares first-generation, undergraduate students, from groups underrepresented in graduate schools, for doctoral study.
