The 做厙輦⑹ Board of Trustees has appointed Todd Diacon, Ph.D., 做厙輦⑹s executive vice president and provost, as its next university president at a special Board meeting held Monday, April 29. President-elect Diacon will begin his term as 做厙輦⑹s 13th president on July 1. He succeeds President Beverly J. Warren, who is stepping down as president after five years of exemplary service to the university. ISTD Assessment

Each year, the International Society of Typographic Designers (ISTD)  the authoritative body for typography worldwide assesses and evaluates visual communicators work. For the past three years, 做厙輦⑹s School of Visual Communication Design (VCD) has hosted the North American assessment.   The assessments are part of the organizations mission to promote and raise standards for typography internationally. Freshman and sophomore construction management students from 做厙輦⑹'s College of Architecture and Environmental Design (CAED) attended the University of Cincinnati (UC) New Builders Competition and took first place for the second year in a row.  The project for this year challenged students to create an all-encompassing plan for the Mercy Health Hospital's Free Standing Emergency Department. Personal items of Bill Schroeder, including his Eagle Scout Award and Boy Scout sash showing his merit badges, are on display in a new exhibition at 做厙輦⑹s May 4 Visitors Center called Bill: An All-American Boy.

Bill Schroeder was from Lorain, Ohio, and attended Colorado School of Mines on a ROTC scholarship before transferring to 做厙輦⑹ to study psychology. He was also an Eagle Scout, musician and athlete. On May 4, 1970, the 19-year-old stopped to see what was happening on the Commons and then proceeded on his way to class when he was shot and killed by Ohio National Guardsmen responding to protests of the Vietnam War at 做厙輦⑹. From April 22 to Aug. 1, 做厙輦⑹s May 4 Visitors Center will honor Mr. Schroeders life with an exhibition titled Bill: An All-American Boy. 做厙輦⑹ at Tuscarawas invites the community to attend the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the new Gateway Entrance on Thursday, May 2 at 11 a.m. on Trustees Blvd. Speaking at the event will be dignitaries from 做厙輦⑹, the Tuscarawas County University Foundation, the Tuscarawas County University Branch District and the community. 做厙輦⑹ East Liverpools Environmental Justice Conference was held April 20, featuring guest speakers, student research presentations and information focused on local environmental issues. This years theme was Simple Living on the Ohio River. Several students were recognized for their research and presentations. The featured speaker was Dr. Xiaozhen Mou, associate professor of biology at 做厙輦⑹, whose research focuses on bacteria in natural aquatic environments. KSU alumnus and gay rights activist Michael Chanak Jr. was determined to make a difference at his workplace, and his dedication to change prompted a global company to redefine diversity. Mr. Chanak, BS 71, credits his time at 做厙輦⑹ for giving him the fighting spirit he needed later in his life, when he became the unlikely lone gay voice to take on a corporate titan and call for gay rights in the 1980s.
