°µÍø½ûÇø's Kent Campus was operating under limited electrical power Tuesday following an outage earlier that morning, with the university's Summit Street Power Plant providing backup electricity in "island mode" to prioritize essential facilities.
At approximately 8 a.m., the Summit Street Power Plant began generating and supplying a limited amount of electrical power to the Kent Campus. However, the plant was unable to produce sufficient electricity to power the entire campus, necessitating that the university prioritize residence halls, dining facilities, and other critical buildings to ensure student safety and well-being.
As of noon, the following buildings were still without power:
- Library
- MACC (Music and Arts Center Complex)
- Center for Performing Arts
- Nixon Hall
- Administrative Services Building
- Taylor Hall
- Bowman Hall
- Business Administration Building
- Satterfield Hall
- Schwartz Center
- DeWeese Health Center
- Ice Arena
- Child Development Center (CDC)
- Van Campen Hall
- Harbourt Hall
- Heer Hall
- WKSU radio station
First Energy has estimated that full electrical service may be restored by mid-afternoon. The university will continue operating in island mode until First Energy restores reliable power to the Kent Campus.
Students and staff are advised to monitor official university communications for updates on the power restoration and building accessibility.
