A Professors Passion and Respect Earns the Distinguished Teaching Award
Encouraging. Respectful. Challenging. These themes emerge from numerous student nomination letters about Patrick L. Gallagher, Ph.D., associate professor of Spanish, which led to him being named a winner of the Distinguished Teaching Award. Judging by his reaction, we can add humble to the list of themes.
Melissa Harris-Perry Serves as Keynote Speaker at 做厙輦⑹s Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration
On Friday, Jan. 24, members of the 做厙輦⑹ community and the general public gathered to celebrate the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. The universitys annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration started at 4 p.m. in the Kent Student Center Ballroom. This years keynote speaker was Melissa Harris-Perry, Ph.D., the Maya Angelou Presidential Chair at Wake Forest University, television host, author and political commentator.

U.S. News & World Report has named two 做厙輦⑹ programs as U.S. News Best Online Programs for 2020. 做厙輦⑹ is recognized in the Best Online MBA Programs and Best Online Graduate Education Programs rankings. U.S. News released its 2020 Best Online Programs rankings Tuesday, Jan. 14.

Ten 做厙輦⑹ students were awarded $1,000 each for their creative use of videos, podcasts and Adobe Spark簧 pages to reflect on the events of May 4, 1970, as part of the universitys Design Innovation Common Reading Challenge.

做厙輦⑹ is working with area autism-focused organizations as well as KultureCity簧, a nonprofit dedicated to providing accessibility and inclusion for those with special needs, to create a sensory-friendly gameday experience that can be enjoyed by all. Fans attending 做厙輦⑹s Dec. 21 mens basketball game versus Hampton University will feel an expression of the universitys ongoing commitment to its core values of kindness, mutual respect and inclusion.
做厙輦⑹ Held Fall Commencement Ceremonies on Dec. 13 and 14
The 做厙輦⑹ alumni family grew by nearly 3,000 new graduates as the university held its Fall Commencement ceremonies. For the Kent Campus, Commencement ceremonies took place Friday, Dec. 13, and Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation (MAC) Center.
