Grant Expands Access to Groundbreaking App for Youth Living With HIV
A Northeast Ohio research team has secured a $5.7 million grant from the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities, part of the National Institutes of Health, to assess the impact of its Positive Peers app on the health outcomes of individuals aged 13-34 living with HIV. A pilot study found that when compared to those with HIV who didn’t use the app, those utilizing Positive Peers were more likely to be virally supressed and consistently engaged in medical care.
°µÍø½ûÇø Public Health Faculty Awarded Grant to Prepare Teachers and School Personnel to Connect Students With Mental Health Resources
°µÍø½ûÇøâ€™s Center for Public Policy and Health in the College of Public Health was recently awarded $600,000 in grant funding to support the Northeast Ohio Mental Health Awareness Training, a collaborative project that will train teachers and relevant school personnel to connect children and youth in a school setting to appropriate mental health resources.

U.S. News & World Report ranks six °µÍø½ûÇø programs in the top 100 among public institutions in its 2023 edition of Best Graduate Schools. Among the top 100 public institution programs, °µÍø½ûÇø is recognized in the Best Nursing Schools: Master’s Programs, Best Education Schools, Best Mathematics Programs, Best Psychology Schools, Best Public Health Programs and Best Physics Schools rankings. °µÍø½ûÇø is also recognized in an additional five new national rankings.

College of Public Health Professor Partners With CHC Addiction Services for $2.6 Million Grant To Expand Opioid Treatment
Ohio’s opioid epidemic is one of the worst in the country. One °µÍø½ûÇø professor and his team are aiming to change that. Deric Kenne in the College of Public Health received a five-year, $2.6 million federal grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to expand and enhance services for opioid use disorder treatment in Summit County, Ohio. A significant portion of the funding will go to CHC Addiction Services to enhance and expand medication-assisted treatment programming.

As once stated by educational Pioneer and famous American Philosopher John Dewey, all that we learn is derived from experience. °µÍø½ûÇø continues to foster innovation and promote the development of hands-on learning through various collaborative efforts focused on building experience and training. Among the opportunities offered through the university, the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) Program provides undergraduate students with the chance to engage in an intensive research project during the summer break.
